Solitude
- SOLITUDE - An acrylic painting on a 24 x 36 size stretched canvas. It was a sparetime painting purchased by Loci Lenar Fine Arts Studio.
Mr. Lenar purchased four of my paintings and made photo copies of them that he published as a set, in an art portfolio in 1990. He titled the folio, "THE STEPHEN FABIAN FANTASY COLLECTION".
Loci Lenar earns his living building fences. In his spare time he buys and sells limited edition science fiction and fantasy books, as well as original artwork. He also produced two photo art portfolios; mine and another featuring four paintings by Jeff Jones.
I assume his spare time ventures are intended to earn him some extra money, but in the case of these two folios I think he went a bit too far; Each art folio has just four 8 x 10 photos, and he priced these folios at $90 each! Now, sometimes when I got involved with a publisher I had to decide whether to accept a lump sum fee, or opt for royalty payments based on sales figures. In this case I felt that with the $90 price tag, not many folios would be sold, so I decided to take a lump sum payment.
I don't know if I made the right decision because I don't know how many copies of the folio were sold. And because I did not opt for getting royalty payments, Mr. Lenar was not obliged to send me sales figures. So, If he sold all or most of the folios, then he made out very well and the last laugh's on me!
