  1. SIVA - An acrylic painting on a 16 x 20 size canvas board. It appears on the cover of the paperback, "SIVA" written by Walt & Leigh Richmond, published by Ace Books.

Did you know that in the history of the publishing industry, as far back as the 1800s, perhaps even earlier, and up to about the 1960s, most publishers, as well as the artists who contributed artwork to them, considered the original artwork to be worthless after it had been prepared for printing? The originals were often thrown into trash bins after publication.

Thankfully, some of those artists cared enough about their artwork to ask that it be returned to them after publication. And we can also be grateful to those art-lovers who rescued some drawings and paintings from those trash bins.

Even in Hollywood, during the early years, many of the magnificent original movie poster paintings were periodically taken to a vacant lot and burned. I shudder to think of all the marvellous original artwork that was so senselessly destroyed!

Around the early 1960s things changed. Heightened appreciation of original popular art gave value to original drawings and paintings, and fans began buying and collecting them in large numbers. How much are they worth today? Well, If you purchased a few Frank Frazetta paperback cover paintings back in the 1960s, you probably paid, at most, a few hundred dollars for each one. Today, if you sold those Frazetta paintings you would become a MILLIONAIRE!
