  1. SHADOWINGS - A black ink and gray color pencil drawing on an 11 x 14 size vellum paper. It appears on the cover of "Shadowings," by Douglas Winter, published by Starmont House in 1983. The subtitle reads: The Reader's Guide to Horror Fiction: 1981-82.

I really hate the Grim Reaper, the fact that I have to meet him some day soon really bugs me. But oddly, he reminds me of a funny story I once read about a man who found himself facing death, and the Savior . . .

While hiking in the wilderness along the edge of a cliff, this man stumbled over an exposed root and as he fell over the edge he managed to grab onto a bush growing just below the top. As he dangled a thousand feet above the canyon floor, unable to pull himself up without dislodging the bush, he called out in desperation, "Is anybody there?"

After a few moments the incredible voice of the Lord echoed throughout the cavern, "YES, I AM HERE, WHAT DO YOU WANT?'

The man pleaded, "Please save me! I can't hold on much longer!"

A moment later THE voice said, "OK, I WILL SAVE YOU. TURN LOOSE OF THE BUSH, TRUST ME TO CATCH YOU, MY HANDS WILL BE UNDER YOU."

The dangling man peered down over his shoulder at the valley floor so far down, thought about it a bit . . and called out, "Is anybody ELSE there?"

Faith and Reality . . . If you "BELIEVE," then your Faith IS your Reality.
