  1. THE HOURS OF THE DRAGON - A computer painting. It appears on the dust jacket of the book, "HOURS OF THE DRAGON," by Robert E. Howard. It is volume 8 in a 10 book series, "The Weird Works of Robert E. Howard," published by Wildside Press in 2008.

This novel was first published in book form by Gnome Press in 1950, as "Conan the Conqueror". It was first published in magazine form as a serial in Weird Tales in the 1930s under the title, "The Hour of the Dragon".

The reprinting of this novel, as well as other Conan stories from the early Weird Tales issues, created a whole new genre in literature called "Sword and Sorcery". For over 60 years Conan has continued to flourish in the publishing industry and shows no signs of letting up. Other writers today, taking advantage of Conan's popularity have written new Conan adventures while others, using different names for their "Conan-like" barbarian hero continue imitating Howard's works. But none of them have been able to equal the power of those original Conan tales written by Howard for Weird Tales.
