Bellerophon

  1. BELLEROPHON - An acrylic painting on a 18 x 22 size canvas board, circa 1995. It was a private commission based on a black and white drawing that I did for a story, "Bellerophon" that appeared in the paperback, "Destinies, Vol.2, No.2".

Sometimes, when I can't seem to decide on the color scheme for a painting I just do it in monotone because after it's finished it's easy to add colors. I did this painting using just raw sienna, burnt umber, and white acrylic paint.

When I was finished with the monotone stage I stepped back to look at it and to think about what colors to apply, but after a few minutes I decided it didn't need any more colors. And when I sat back down to sharpen an edge or two, I ended up adding just a tiny bit of delicate pink color to the girl's robe.
