  1. ANITA - A black ink and black color pencil drawing on an 11 x 14 size coquille board. It appears in the book, "Anita," by Keith Roberts, published by Owlswick Press, 1990

This picture reminds me of a terrifying short story titled, "Knock," written by Fredric brown. It is only two short sentences long and goes like this; "The last man on Earth sat alone in a room. There was a knock on the door". That's it! The rest of the story is up to you to think about, to finish.

Fredric Brown was a master at writing very short stories like "Knock," in which he sets up a short scenario and lets the reader imagine the rest of the story.

When I read "Knock" I came up with what is probably the most obvious storyline; a world-wide catastrophy like a plague must have wiped out the entire population of Earth except for that one man who somehow managed to survive and is now all alone in a room, sitting in a chair. And then of course, when he answers the knock on the door, there stands the last woman on Earth who also survived!

But think of the many other possibilities for who, or what, may be knocking on the other side of the door . . .
